I have a confession.
I’ve never been a “business professional”.
I’ve never attended a business meeting.
I’ve never had a manager ask about reports or deadlines.
I don’t have an MBA.
And for the last four and half years, I’ve let that hold me back, and convince me I don’t have what it takes to run a “real” business. I knew I could write, but managing a growing business is a horse of a different color.
I decided 2021 was going to be the year I stopped playing the newbie. That I stopped allowing fear to get in my way. And stopped using the excuse “I’ve never been in business” keep from running my own successful business.
I started asking myself, “why not me?”
Should I pitch a podcast? Yeah, why not me!?
Should I submit a proposal to speak at a conference? Heck ya! Why not me?!
Those simple three words changed my entire mindset. I went from allowing fear to hold me back, to pushing myself outside of my comfort zone. To pitching dream publications, to pitching large conferences, to reaching out to be on my favorite podcasts.
The change and response has been incredible. I’ll share the outcomes when I can, but I’m honestly amazed at the impact these three words have had on my life in only 6 weeks.
And what I love most about my ‘why not me?’ mindset, is that it doesn’t compete with your ‘why not me?’
Give it a shot! If you want to something, and are willing to put in the work to accomplish it, why not you!
You might be surprised at the outcome.
