As I’m writing this, we’re 19 days into 2021, and I’ve turned away four great writing gigs. One of them was hard to say no to because I pitched this lead back in 2018! He has a business and a podcast. In his popular podcast, he interviews founders and CEO’s in the SaaS world. I wanted to be in front of him. I wanted him to know my name, what I do, and I wanted to share it with his audience.
In 2018 his response was, and I’m paraphrasing, but “go do something worth talking about and then come back.” He was right. I had very few by-lines (I think one at this point) and most of my work was tied up in ghostwriting. Then out of the blue, in late December 2020, he emails me to see if I can help him with writing for one of his clients. I wanted to say yes because it would validate 2018 Adrienne (and secretly he’d see how amazing I am and beg me to be on his podcast).
I had to ask myself, “Is this project going to get me where I want to go?” Would writing for another consultant be a step forward toward building a million dollar consultancy, or would it not be a step at all, but rather standing still in my comfort?
I decided it wasn’t a step forward. So, I declined and referred a few other writers his way.
But that sums up my focus, this newsletter, and the growth of my business- “Is this a step forward, or am I standing still?”
Here’s to moving forward and growing to a million!
*last week I said we’d go over January’s revenue, but then I realized, it’s still January! More time to grow. We’ll cover the numbers in the first week of Feb. *

You piqued my curiosity, now I really want to know who this was 😂 I'm appreciating the value of saying No more and more as my business grows. I keep in mind Warren Buffet saying "really successful people say no to almost everything". I'm not quite at that point, but it's a goal!
