It’s spring in Texas and for my family that means planting a vegetable garden. Planting a garden is one of those things that teaches me so much about life, and seasons, and even business.
The first stage of planting a vegetable garden is to choose your vegetables. We like to pick veggies that we all love to eat. This year we’ve chosen a salsa garden.
We’re growing:
Tomatoes
Jalapenos
Garlic
Onions
We’ve started our seedlings in tiny planter cups and have carefully added them to nutrient rich soil, giving them just enough sun and water to grow into strong sprouts.
This stage of the garden reminds me of my stage of business. I've pushed through the idea, planning, and preparation stages, and have moved into planting seeds.
I’m planting seeds by teaching workshops, creating templates, speaking on podcasts, pitching large conferences, and guest blog posts.
This part of business can be tough. It’s hard to know what the fruits of my labor will be. But just like with our spring planting, I’ve got to be patient and allow the work to do its job. I can’t focus on how many tomatoes I’ll grow from one seed, I’d drive myself nuts if I stood near the onions and measured the sprout shoots everyday. And the same goes for my business. I can’t stress about what pitches will be accepted, what podcasts I’ll be able to speak on, or how many clients I’ll sign after those events publish.
What I can focus is on is doing the daily work that will help nurture that goal. I can write to you guys in this newsletter, create downloadable products, send a certain number of pitches each week. Those are the things I can control, so those are things I’m focusing on.
Are you planting seeds? The metaphorical kind or the literal ones, I’d love to know!
