Because this newsletter is going to be about real hard work, real decisions, real confusion, wins, and well….life— I want to share the context of my life outside of what 250 characters you might have picked up on Twitter.
So, here are few important things that make up my life.
I’m a mom. I have three kids, aged 10 (F), 8 (M), and 5(M). They’re wonderful and crazy and all things that children can be. They fill up every space I have: mentally, emotionally, and physically.
I’m a wife and partner. My husband has played a key role in supporting me in my business growth. He’s never doubtful of my ability, even when I’m convinced I’m shit and should fall down a deep hole.
We homeschool. Yes, even before the pandemic. The way I structure my working day is around their school needs. Homeschooling doesn’t take as long as most people think, especially because they’re so young. We’re always done before lunch, but then I'm left keeping them occupied while I meet, write, and work. If you get on a Zoom with me often enough you're bound to see one little head poking in and, usually, asking for a snack.
I use to be a high school English teacher. Teaching is still a part of my daily life- obviously with the kids, but I also teach an advanced grammar course for our homeschool program. I know I’ll apply my passion for teaching to my consulting business. I’m working on laying that foundation now. I love it so much! I miss my students, but I’ve never missed the bureaucracy of the classroom.
I’m an Enneagram 3. Not sure what enneagram is? Click here. I mention that because I’ve never taken a personality test that fits me perfectly, and yet this one does. It’s eery how accurate it is. The enneagram 3 is The Achiever. And that sums me up pretty well. I love setting and meeting goals. I love deadlines, timelines, and expectations. Think I can’t accomplish something? Fantastic. Just watch me. But I’m also very passionate about seeing others succeed. Other people’s “magic” or specialness is so clear to me. I wonder how they don’t see it. I’m your best cheerleader.
That’s a good start. The rest will fall in place as we grow together.
P.S. I’m getting permission from all the amazing consultants I spoke with in the first couple of weeks of Jan. I’m going to share my takeaways from these amazing conversations!
